I'd like to share a painting I did on one Saturday for a month ago. This is a view from the hill at Pierce college looking down San Fernando valley toward North.
I live far at the mountain ridge on the right top corner of this painting.
I feel good with this painting, still I think I treated too literally. While I was painting this, I was thinking Cezanne. I am quite interested in Cezanne's composition. I wonder that any influence of Cezanne has reflected in this painting. Well....

I love the beginning of this painting posted below. It has spontaneity and abstracted quality I always seek. I labored hours more from this stage. On such a small size of surface. Why!?

Below is a photo I took that afternoon. My painting is done in one afternoon on the spot, not painted from the photo at all. But see how exact my painting is to this photo. It is scary!!
Only thing I did is I tried to frame the camera as same as my painting when I was taking the photo.

I am quite happy with this painting; The composition, reflextion makes this painting unique, I think. The mix of realism and abstractness of suface is creating allegory.

It is so interesting to see the gradual changes from the first painting "Azalea I". I am going to do more of this approach from now on. I was excited when I added Red into back ground. ( I didn't have any Red in my setting)

Recently, I am trying to do the different approach with composition and colors in my painting. More abstaction rather than just copying what is there. I am quite happy with this first painting of Azalea. So I did three more paintings of Azalea.

 I did a painting of roses against blue back ground today. Without any artificial, spot lighting, only natural light through the window behind me. I wanted the background 'Blue' stays 'Blue' without getting affected by the color of artificial light.
The controlling value and color temperature of Red oil paint is so tricky, since they are transparent. Especially when you paint such a beautiful roses.... Ahhhhh!!!

I wanted to paint this jar since my last birthday.
My daughter brought a juice in it for me to the park. Anything related with my daughter is beyond ADORE always!! Also wild sunflower... They are around hills since spring time, everlasting. I like this painting how it turned out.

This is Korean stoneware tea cup. The milky green color of these tea cups is very unique with Korean ceramics. An interesting contrast of subdued green and subdued red in this painting is creating a 'Zen' moment.

I love California;
the weather, spaciousness, carefreeness, ethnic mixes, all the variety it offers.....
I have been living in California for 40 years.
I feel I am a true 'Californian Golden Girl', even I am not a hotti on the boogie board at the beach.

Sydney & Lucia

These are my puppies. Sydney is about 20 months old, male, tan color.
Lucia is female, gray. about 1 yr old, newly adopted. I thought Sydney migtht not like to be an only child. Both are Rescue Dogs. Beautiful Mutts!!
Lucia always follows Sydney and watch what he is up to.
This is my very first animal painting. I was not sure how it was going to come out. But as I was painting, I realized that the same principal of painting applies to any object.

My birthday is on July 14th. Bastille Day, France’s Independence Day in 1789 that changed France forever.
I feel like I should be in Paris watching fireworks at Eiffel Tower on my every Birthday.
My daughter and Buzz gave me a little picnic for my birthday, at the park in Old Pasadena in front of Armory Center for Art.
The cupcake they brought was so sweet and festive, perfect for summer birthday in the park.

This a portrait of my son, Dennis.
I did this painting for a while ago, from 5x7 photo reprint of a small group of people. How I was able to do this painting from that sort of small size of reference is because I know him very well. In the photo, Dennis is listening to a person talking. He looks not quite agreeing about the speech. I would like to try this kind of painting more for my acquaintance from my photo album. I like to paint peaple to capture the expression.

"Light Bulb" -sold

A white light bulb is sitting on the white plastic tray with orange fabric behind.
Orange background is creating the glows in the shadow and very subtle orange tint all over the white tray, probably only visible to the painter's eye.
I would like to pass my perception to the viewers and help them enjoy this kind of plain setting quite interesting.
