working in process
These are working process of my final piece for this course. Not finished yet: 24x24, on canvas, Mixed media ( acrylics, sand, and pastel)
I had a surface I created for a while ago as the base of a painting. It has lots of texture.
My reference is Tilda Swinton which I use for the previous charcoal study. There I didn't include the hands. Here I am adding hands.
1) I applied reds and green over the old surface. I forgot to take photo of the old surface. Blue showing through is old surface.
2) I applied light browns and scratch some random lines.
3) Wash off some part to reveal underneath
4) Draw in hands and facial feature.

"pink socks"
Oil on canvas, 12x18
This is from a photo of my daughter sitting on the big cushion with her cat, looking up. I skipped the cat to paint. The diagonals in composition intrigued me to paint this.
My daughter is one person I know who wares "Pink" so well, as a grownup, naturally.
Color "Pink" and I don't complement each other. With pink on me, my skin color looking ugly and ,vice versa. On me, color pink looks so unnatural, unsophisticated color.

"Self Portrait"
This drawing of 'me', through the mirror. It is impossible for me to do well with photograph.
So spontaneous and simply done with fewest strokes possible.
It works!
I got the essence of me here.

"Me"
Last night, I found this drawing I did just before I moved to Santa Fe, on May, 2012.
I was not quite happy with the piece, then. But I am looking at it now, not bad and happy that I am looking lot younger, even only 2 yrs passed by.

"Blind Drawings"
These are drawings done without looking what you are drawing.
Much more expressive than usual way of drawing. If it is not blind drawing, this line quality won't happen.

I woke up with a headache.
Maybe it shows thru the drawing!?

My
self portrait from the mirror. Someone one told me that he could
recognized me from my Apr 14's posting of self portrait, but somewhat
different from real person, younger and prettier than.... Last night I
put the mirror right in front of me and draw this. Trying to show my
drooping chin line with 'no fun' expression.
And I will show this one to my friend to see how he thinks.
BTW, I color my hair red against gray.

"Self Portrait "
20x 15, acrylics, on Illustration board.jpg)
I am taking E course, "Draw and paint what you Love - Spring 2014".
Last week was Week 1: Mark Making. I did my self portrait for the Mark-making practice. I found it lot easier to approach the painting by thinking "I am JUST making various marks". It frees me and more fun.

Sunset In Santa Fe
I love this song " Sunset in Santa Fe"

Strangely enough, there are many folks move to Santa Fe, by falling love with Santa Fe sky.
I am the one of them.

"Winged Man"
I always love figurative work......
All of my New Direction paintings are Figurative Abstract.
I am enjoying the spontaneous, carefree process of painting.
This painting is done Dec 2013, right before Xmas.
I feel I came long way since last summer.
I gave "The Winged Man" as a title to this painting.

"Moonstruck I"
I am quite happy with progress I am making. Enjoying the experimental approach with the use of color and texture. There are endless possibilities as long as I am on my journey of the searching
"Journeyman"
This painting has thick and rough texture. Hard to deal with.
Has so many layers attempt made. Finally I am quite happy with this painting.
I have to give a title fit well to. Maybe, "Journey Man", I like it!

Searching for the Direction-week 5
5 weeks passed by. Finally I have two paintings which I could call it as finished. I am very happy I got to this point rather quicker than I expected.
My mission from now is to continue producing paintings with same integrity as these.
Seems much harder than the exploring stage.

Searching for the Direction-week 1
Starting last week, I am trying to do larger paintings, with different approach.
By using acrylics, creating the interesting surface. I am curious how this process will be developed.
