"Objet d'Art"

 "Objet d'Art"
12"x12", oil on Canvas

This is a painting I did last Fall for the oil painting class at Pierce College.
Objective of this assignment was to intrigue the viewer and create the impact with a painting from a plain, ordinary object... not looking as random or insignificant, but awesome, intriguing, powerful, and  precious.
These are just plain oranges and a a new 12x12 cotton canvas.
I put them close together barely touching each other, to create the visual tension.  The canvas was new, still wrapped with clear plastic. It creates the reflective surface.
Canvas and oranges are just usual objects.
But in this painting, these two plain objects, a canvas and oranges, looking awesome.

This painting  was chosen for the student show for the gallery, making me so happy!

"Yellow Lyrics "

7"x5", oil on Canvas panel

.....I wrote a song for you,
And all the things you do,
And it was called "Yellow"
So then I took my turn,
Oh what a thing to have done,
And it was all "Yellow.".......

"Irreconcilable!"

5"x7", oil on gesso board

Well...I had a luck painting fast with "Geranium".
I can't figure out why this painting took so long...many, many hours... so embarrassing to tell anyone or even myself!
It is "Irreconcilable Differences in Painting", composition, subject matter..... hard to be together.
I was not happy all the way along...up to this point.
It is all right now with me to be able to stop tackling.
From the beginning of the first completion, nothing much changed, very subtle...
Probably, others can't tell the differences.
Still wants to make the right side tomato little more saturated... I am going to leave it now, to avoid further resentment.

"A Mango"

7"x5", oil on gesso board

I find it very difficult to paint a mango; it's unique shape and rich colors.
The color transits from the dark rich crimson to red, then orange to yellow, pale yellow to light green at the tip.
Such a beautiful fruit!! Looking so delicious!!
Wish that I captured that rich color variations and deliciousness of the mango in my painting.

"Two Lemons"

7"x5", oil on canvas board

I applied thicker paint on this painting. I like how brush strokes is casting shadows.
The camera didn't catch the freshness of colors properly.
The actual painting has a lot more vibrancy.

"wedged"

6"x6", oil on gesso board
I am quite happy with this painting; The composition, reflextion makes this painting unique, I think. The mix of realism and abstractness of suface is creating allegory.

"Life is just a Bowl of Cherries"

6"x6", oil on gesso board

Life is just a bowl of cherries;
Don't make it serious;
Life's too mysterious.
..........................
Life is just a bowl of cherries,
Live and laugh at it all.

"Three Apples"

v.1
10"x8", oil on canvas

I did this painting during the nighttime. When I see this painting during the day, the shadow area seems too heavy. So.. I am working on it more.
Wish that I could improve the painting. It is always better to do another painting, since I tend to loose my patience and kill all the freshness. Lets see... It is all about learning, I guess...

The below paintings are my recent daily paintings.

"Solitude"
7"x5", oil on panel
NFS

I spend so much time with this one more than any other paintings I do for my daily practice. After all the agonizing process, I like this paining. It has a soul.

"Red Delicious"
6"x6", oil on canvas panel

This is not good copy of real painting. It has lot more richness to the color.

"Magnolia"
8"x10" oil on canvas

"Azalea"
7"x10" oil on canvas

I didn't expect much from what I was painting.
I just did it to keep my sanity from the nightmare of fixing home after renting out home for an year and half while I was in London.
But I am very happy with this painting. It is one of my best I feel. It is rather calm than my state of mind and has beatiful color harmony, blue and orange.
